Approach & Values

How we help?

Three years ago, when my daughter changed to a new school, I found that she became very anxious and unhappy. She didn’t want to go to school as she felt that she had no friends at school. She became depressed and had thoughts about suicide. We were very fortunate to be introduced to WCCYC in time and started individual counseling right away for my daughter and family therapy for us. Through in-depth treatment, our daughter understood the root of the problems and learned how to solve them quickly. She was like a sponge, and practices on herself. The problems that we once worried so much before are all resolved. And not only did our daughter benefit, but our whole family learned under the guidance of therapist to utilize effective coping strategies to deal with many problems that had existed for a very long time. Now my daughter has more smiles on her face with renewed self- confidence. We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation and hope that more children and parents will benefit from the services that Wellness Counseling Centre for Youth Canada offers.

I took the anger management counseling at Wellness Counseling Centre for Youth Canada. As a recovering alcoholic, I had many issues with my anger. After my first couple of sessions, I knew I was in the right place and this was where I had to be. I felt so comfortable as I was not being judged and labeled by my therapist. Recovery is a process but I learned how to manage my anger and was given useful tools to practice outside of the sessions. This was a safe place for me to express myself. I learned a lot about how to diffuse stressful situations to make sure that I do not lash out on my daughter.

I want to express my gratitude to Lydia for the Parenting workshops she conducted. The topics were very well organized to cover all the areas I want to learn as a single mom. Although I have gone to a lot of other parenting workshops, it gave me a different look at the problems we experience in life, and gives a different approach to handle, especially in dealing with emotion and stress management. Through the discussion in the sessions, I also was able to learn about different problems that other moms experience and be able to know in advance how to deal with them if it comes to me in the future. I am from China and have lived here for 17 years. Still I do not think I know Canadian culture enough, and we could easily be impacted due to our culture and language barriers. These are such great workshops that help immigrants understand their children who grow up in Canada and learn parenting skills that work.

Being a teenager is super stressful because we have a ton of school work and there’s also friend drama. It can get so overwhelming but since I’ve been doing one on one counseling sessions at WCCYC, I’ve been able to learn proper and effective time management skills as well as how to resolve conflicts with my peers. Now I feel less overwhelmed and not only am I getting better grades but I also have a much healthier relationship with my friends.
